The Saint Rose of Lima Bereavement Ministry has formed a group to provide compassionate care to Companions on the Journey who grieve the loss of a loved one.
Grief is a normal emotional response following a loss. The separation from someone we love can be very powerful and cause a number of physical, emotional and spiritual symptoms. It is important to remember that each of us grieves differently and therefore, we strive to create a safe space for individuals to express themselves freely.
When a loved one dies, feelings of shock, denial, sadness, anger and depression usually follow. Often symptoms like a lack of energy, knotted stomach, loss of appetite and feeling disoriented. Recognizing that these symptoms are normal responses to the death of someone close to you is the first step in the process of grieving.
The Bereavement Ministry is glad to announce the start of a new grief support group for the members of St. Rose of Lima. Come join us as we offer comfort to one another in a safe and supportive environment. Meetings will be held on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at the Wyndgate Club House, 10424 Summershade Lane, in Double Diamond. We begin promptly at 6:30 PM. and meet for 90 minutes.
Grief Support time being changed for the summer: We meet the 2nd & 4th Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Wyndgate Club House. We’re viewing videos by griefshare.org; very helpful in journeying through the grief process. Call Karen Wertzberger @ 853-5397 for more information & gate code, or if you need a ride.

Description of the Bereavement Ministry
Bereavement ministers assist the family in planning funeral services, including selection of readings, music, memorials, and reception options. Specially trained ministers can also provide comfort and support through home visits with those suffering from the stress of death, illness, divorce, surgery or other loss.
Training is individualized and scheduled as needed when ministers volunteer. Home visitors (Stephan Ministers) require 50 hours of specialized training.
Once trained, a Bereavement Minister is scheduled as needed for funeral planning. Total time required per client is about three hours. Home visits are generally one hour per week.
If you are interested with assisting this special ministry, please contact Karen Wertzberger at 853-5397 or karenwertz@sbcglobal.net.
