Introduction

Respect Life

Chairpersons:  Jim & Laurie McGinley, 849-3050.  Jim is also the Respect Life chairperson for the Knights of Columbus, St. John Vianney Council 13842.

A lay ministry which provides information regarding life issues such as abortion, euthanasia, and embryonic stem cell research.

We help raise awareness of pro-life issues and activities to the St. Rose Catholic community.

There is so much satisfaction in knowing you may have helped an unborn baby live or the elderly/infirm continue to live.

If you wish to volunteer your time to helping out in this ministry, please contact Jim or Laurie.

Diocesan contact: Linda Ugalde

Please come to pray a Rosary of Reparation on the first Saturday of each month  at 9:00 a.m. in the field across the street from the  West End Women’s Center at 5915 Tyrone Road, Reno.  Join with others who pray for an end to abortion, the closure of this abortion facility, and for healing and forgiveness for those who have participated in an abortion.

The Priests for Life newsletter and Fr. Frank`s nationally syndicated bi-weekly column are now available by e-mail!  You can receive this by writing to us at subscribe@priestsforlife.org.  Our website, www.priestsforlife.org, is updated daily and contains all of our printed material as well as audio and video resources.  God bless you!

What does the Church really teach about...
Stem Cell Therapy?

Contrary to what you commonly hear in the media, the Catholic Church wholeheartedly favors Stem Cell Therapy--the kind that works, the kind that has already brought about dramatic cures for hundreds of patients.  Stem cells can be harvested from the spine, from umbilical cord blood, and many other sources.

But there`s a problem.  Some researchers kill unborn human life to harvest stem cells.  Much experimentation has already been done with these "Embroynic Stem Cells."  None of these experiments has brought about a single cure.

So the Church asks the question:  why kill the unborn to get stem cells that don`t work, when there are several moral ways to harvest stem cells that do work?

Stem Cell therapy:  the Church says, "Yes.  But don`t kill."

The Respect Life Committee`s comittment to you...

We`ll tell you what the Church teaches about Life Issues.

Bishop Randolph Calvo has initiated this special program to educate the faithful of our diocese in what is perhaps the most important issue of our day:  Life.

Life and death decisions in science and society are often complicated.  Sometimes, it`s hard to tell right from wrong in the news, on the ballot, and in our personal lives.

Christ`s church has had a single, clear understanding of the human`s right to life for two thousand years.  It boils down to what is shown in the famous painting by Michelangelo, "Creation of Adam".  The human receives life from God.  Life is sacred.

So how do we apply this fact to our modern world?

This is what we of the Respect Life Committee will share with you in parish presentations, conversations, literature, Immaculate Heart Radio broadcasts, and our website, www.renocatholics4life.org. Empowered with this knowledge, you will have a choice.

Redeemer in the Womb

Lord Jesus Christ, You took our human nature upon Yourself.
You shared our life and death, our childhood and adulthood.

You also shared our time in the womb.  While still God, while worshiped and adored by the angels, while Almighty and filling every part of the universe, You dwelt for nine months in the womb of Mary.  You were our Redeemer in the womb, our God who was a preborn child.

Lord Jesus, we ask You to bless and protect the children who today are in their mothers` womb.  Save them from the danger of abortion.  Give their mothers the grace to sacrifice themselves, in body and soul, for their children.  Help all people to recognize the preborn child a brother, a sister, saved by You, our Redeemer in the womb.

Prayer for the Closing of the Abortion Mill

Heavenly Father, all life is in Your care.

You have entrusted us to one another, that we may

show our brothers & sisters

the same love You have for us.

We pray now, for the least among us, the

children in the womb.

Protect them from the violence of abortion.

We pray for those that are scheduled to die at

West End Women`s Center in Reno.

Save them from death.

Give new hope to their parents, that they may turn

away from the desperate act of abortion.

Grant conversion to the abortionist & staff at

West End Women`s Center.

Show us how we are to respond to the bloodshed

in our midst, and lead us to the day when this place

of death will be transformed into a haven of life.

Guard us with your joy & your peace, for in You,

life is victorious.

We pray in the Holy Name of Jesus Christ our Lord

and Saviour.  Amen.

-from Fr. Frank Pavone , Priests for Life

For Little Ones Unborn

Our Father, we thank You for letting us share Your gift of life.

We know that all Your children are precious to You.

We pray that You may give special protection to little ones not

yet born.  Guard them from those who would do them harm.

Permit them to enter the world safely, to live in the light of day,

and to make their way to the place You have prepared for them.

Grant that every mother may welcome her child with love,

as Mary welcomed her Divine Son.

We ask this through Christ, Our Lord.  Amen
