Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.)
Chairperson: Missy McQuattie-Teachout-850-2542 or rcia@strosereno.com
We accompany those who wish to become Catholic on their journey toward Baptism or profession of faith and reception of the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist.
National and regional institutes regarding RCIA are conducted periodically by the North American Forum on the Catechumenate. RCIA related topics are also usually featured at the annual Diocesan Conference. An understanding of Church teaching, Theology, and Scripture is pertinent.
Our group convenes from September 23rd (Wednesdays 2009-2010) through May 23rd from approximately 7:00 PM to 8:15 PM. In addition, our group attends Sunday Mass together from mid-Advent to Easter during which time we are dismissed after the Liturgy of the Word to "break open the words of Scripture" from the Sunday lectionary readings. There are approximately 50-55 sessions of the group each year, each of which requires preparation for those doing catechesis.
Telephone calls for prospective catechumens and candidates may be numerous, as are follow-up calls and occasional individual meetings. Sponsors in the program have an important, but lesser time commitment. If you wish to attend the RCIA classes or receive more information, please contact Missy at the above phone number or email her.
