Baptism |
|
We welcome all families with young children. For your first step, you must become a registered, practicing, contributing member of St. Rose of Lima for at least 4 months with proven Mass attendance. Your second step is to contact Kathy in the office, 851-1874, to schedule and get a baptism kit. Be sure you provide all the necessary documents. Baptism class is the 1st Thursday of every month at 6pm. At least one godparent must be a practicing Catholic. All Baptisms are celebrated on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Sunday of each month at 12:00 noon, after the 10:30 Mass. Our Pastor, Father Larry Morrison baptizes on the 1st Sunday of each month. On the 2nd & 4th Sunday of the month, one of our Deacons, Auguste Lemaire or Tom Cargil, performs the baptisms, and on the 3rd Sunday of the month, our Parochial Vicar, Father Joseph Abraham performs the baptisms.
Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua), and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: "Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word."
There are no baptisms and classes during Lent. 2010: 17th of February - 3rd of April 2011: 9th of March - 23rd of April 2012: 22nd of February - 7th of April

Confirmation |
|
Confirmation preparation classes are for two years, normally for young people who are high school freshmen and sophmores. Manogue students attend classes only their sophmore year. Call our front office staff at 851-1874 for contact information for Confirmation. Parents must be registered members of St. Rose of Lima.
Confirmation preparation class for adults is part of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) program (see Ministries page). For more information, contact Jim Toner at 849-0476.
Baptism, Communion, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the "sacraments of Christian initiation," whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace, for "by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed."

Communion |
|
Preparation for First Holy Communion is part of the Religious Education program (see Ministries webpage). It is a two-year program. Contact our Director of Religious Education, Terry Sheldon-Brown, 850-2535. Parents must be registered parishioners at St. Rose of Lima.
Holy Communion completes Christian initiation. Those who have been raised to the dignity of the royal priesthood by Baptism and configured more deeply to Christ by Confirmation participate with the whole community in the Lord`s own sacrifice by means of the Communion.

Reconciliation |
|
Reconciliation (Confession) is Saturday, 4:00 PM to 4:45 PM or by appointment anytime. Please call the parish office at 851-1874 if you wish an appointment.
Those who approach the sacrament of Penance obtain pardon through God`s mercy for the offense committed against Him, and are, at the same time, reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by their sins and which by charity, by example, and by prayer labors for their conversion.

Marriage |
|
Six months advance notice is required for weddings. Please contact Jane Lucero, our Pastoral Associate, 850-2531, for an appointment. Betrothed couples must attend an Engaged Encounter weekend. Please go to Engaged Encounter's website at www.renoee.org for dates, times, location and registration, or you may call Craig and/or Amy Nielson, local coordinators, at 324-LOVE (5683).
The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament."

Holy Orders |
|
Holy Orders is the sacrament through which the mission entrusted by Christ to his apostles continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time: thus it is the sacrament of apostolic ministry. It includes three degrees: episcopate, presbyterate, and diaconate.
Please contact Father Larry Morrison, 851-1874, for vocational direction.

Anointing |
|
By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests, the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that He may raise them up and save them. And indeed She exhorts them to contribute to the good of the People of God by freely uniting themselves to the Passion and death of Christ.
In emergencies, for the Sacrament of the Sick, call the Parish Office, 851-1874. Your call will be forwarded to our on-call priest if the parish office is closed.
On the First Friday of each month, during the 8:30 AM Mass, Father Larry Morrison administers the Anointing of the Sick in Mary`s Chapel, located on the west side of the Church.
